I wasn't sure at first if this was the one, but it was confirmed by a student that this statue of Felix Dzerzhinskiy was the one formerly in Lubyanka. Dzerzhinskiy was the founder of what became the KGB. My guidebook tells me the monument was removed by angry mobs after the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union. It is now located in a sculpture park outside the New Tretyakov gallery.
