I won!
Last night I crossed the 50,000 word line and became an official winner of Nanowrimo 2005. All day I've been kind of walking on air. I swore I was going to give myself a break and not write anything for a couple of days, even though my novel wasn't actually finished. After work I ate some dinner, watched some TV, tried to do some house work, and couldn't get my mind off my novel. It occured to me I could tie up the story in only a couple more pages I had to finish. So I sat down and went to work yet again, and wrote the words, "The end" about 30 minutes ago. My final official word count is 51,652. Hey, at least it's still November for another hour and fifteen minutes. You're not considered totally insane unless you're still writing well into December.
Now comes the editing part. That is something I will wait to do. I'm happy just having a completed first draft for now.
Oh heck let's hear it one more time: "I WON!!!"

My nanorwimo novel has broken the 7,000 word mark as of right now, and I'm really hoping to break, 10,000 by tonight. I have 14 days left and 42,000 words left to write. It can be done!
If I feel like it I'll write more tonight and talk about my novel. Right now I feel the urge to write some more.
Today is Pepero day in Korea. Originally, I thought the occasion originated in Japan and got transported across the East Sea to Korea. As it turns out it was the other way 'round. Check the link above to read more.
Pepero are the chocolate covered cookie sticks known in Japan as Pocky. In America you can sometimes find them in the Asian section of some supermarkets. It's pepero day because today is November 11th. Get it? 11/11. All day children give each other boxes of the stuff. As a teacher, I'm sure to get an armload of them.
Pepero day is nothing less than a stroke of marketing genius. It is to chocolate cookie sticks what Thanksgiving is to turkeys, what Mother's day is to flowers, what Halloween is to apples and razor blades. Wait...what?
This is honest to God my favoritist day in Korea, and not merely because it's a day devoted to snacks. I love it because it's just fun. To my knowledge, no one has ever died for pepero. There's no Pepero ceremonies, no Pepero day cards, no expensive gifts, no drunk uncle phil at the annual Pepero day party, no heavy-handed moralizing tales about the true meaning of Pepero day. If you like someone, you give them some Pepero. That's it. Participation is strictly optional. If you decide to be a Pepero Scrooge, that's entirely your business.
Of course in America, Canada, and western Europe, today marks the end of World War One. It's a solemn day of remembrance, and well it should be. In extoling the virtues of Pepero day, I don't mean to make light of today's other holiday. But today doesn't have the same significance in Asia that it does in Europe and other countries. So why not have some fun with it? Pepero to the people!

Wow, I'm really sucking at the bloggage lately. Not once did I manage to post during the month of October. To catch everyone up to date (as if anyone had even noticed), here's a few headlines about what's been happening lately.
Gotta write some more...
- The teaching thing is fine. I get more comfortable with my classes each week. Just today I learned My winter vacation will be from January 15th until the end of the month.
- For vacation I'm thinking about going home for a short visit.
- I'm also thinking of visiting Moscow again in the somewhat near future. It would make more sense to visit Arizona in the winter and save Moscow for the summer, but when have I ever done what's logical?
- Last thursday I did a demonstration class for the other teachers in the area and it went really well. I was the first one to do it, which I'm glad about because a) I got it over with quickly, and b) I get to set the tone for the rest of the demonstrations.
- This month I'm participating in National Novel Writing Month. My novel is called 30 days in the life of Jason Bader. The biggest problem I'm having right now is a lack of a plot. But it's a minor detail.
