This is not spam, or is it?

An article I found through Digg this morning says 75 percent of all the blogs on Blogspot are spam. The article went on to claim that the majority of what's on the Internet today is spam. Apparently, but for the valiant efforts of a few sites like Yahoo and Google, the Internet would decay into nothing but an endless stream of penny stock scams, ads for body part enhancement pills and pleas from Nigerian probate attorneys.

Blogspot even thought the good old BoB was a spam blog for a time. A while back I tried to post an entry and found my posting privileges had been suspended. At the same time I got a weird notification that Blogger's splog detectors were on to me. They said the Blog of Brian had all the earmarks of a spam blog, such as several links to the same location and line after line of gibberish. Well, anyone is free to criticize my writing, but that's getting a little personal, don't you think?

Actually, what I think happened was their robot computer came across my New Year's entry where I typed out "Happy New Year" phonetically in Chinese and Korean. Since their computer only speaks American (how dense) it thought I must be up to no good. Fortunately, getting back in Blogger's good graces was fairly easy. All I had to do was sign in, enter a turing code, promise I was a real person, turn around three times and spit, and then weirdest of all, buy lunch for a guy in Mountainview California.

Seriously though...I've wanted to move to Wordpress for some time, but besides the fact that I'd have to pay for my own hosting, I don't think I have the technical skills right now to pull it off, and also don't really have the readership to justify it. So for the moment at least, here on Blogspot we shall stay.

I have further thoughts about blogging and the future of the BoB, but I will save it for another posting. That's enough gibberish out of me for one day.

Sae hae bok manni baddu saeyo!
Gung Hay fat choy!
Happy new year!

As I think most people have heard by now, according to Chinese astrology, this is year of the pig. Some people thought it was the year of the Golden pig, and that it was a huge deal that only comes around only every 600 years or so. Then it came out that it wasn't the Golden pig at all. This is the year of the fire pig. (mmm...barbecued pig!) The latest I hear is that the whole golden pig rumor was started by "the government" (whose government they didn't say) in an effort to boost declining birth rates. You knew there had to be a government conspiracy in there somewhere.

I don't know about any of that. But I will say the golden pig has had an auspicious effect on my blog statistics. See, way back in September 2005 I wrote a short entry about some bankers who came into our school office and left some golden piggy banks as a sales promotion. I snapped a picture of one with my camera phone and put it up on the blog. Well, now if you do a Google image search on the phrase "Golden Pig" the third image that appears is my glittered little piggy bank. I daresay it's the most famous golden damn pig on the Internet! Over the past few months I've noticed my daily hit count steadily increasing, and almost all of them were courtesy of the gold pig. Yesterday I had 32 hits, which is a record for me. I know some blogs get more hits in one day than mine has had in its entire lifespan, but still...

2008 is the year of the rat, Wikipedia says the elements associated with it are earth and fire, so I guess I'll have to start now taking pictures of rats. Eww.

Sell his head? Heck, he couldn't give it away

I'm on the 10th installment of Moby Dick and Ishmael has just barely managed to get himself into bed at an inn called The Spouter. I think a gay bath house now occupies the space where the Spouter used to reside, which is fortunate since they wouldn't have had to change the signs.

But seriously folks. We've only just barely seen the character who I think is Captain Ahab and we, or rather Ishmael, hasn't even seen his face yet. The guy who is maybe Ahab has been out selling head...I mean, selling a head, specifically the head of a New Zealander. Everyone's reaction to this fact is disturbingly casual. Maybe Ahab proceeds to undress and is about to climb in bed with Ishamel, who has been forced to share quarters with the whaler due to a lack of space at the inn. (If I had a dollar for every head-peddling whalers I've shared a bed with...) In any case, it seems an inauspicious way to begin an adventure. But then I already know we're going to end up chasing a white whale before we're done, so what did I honestly expect?

Anyway, I don't know if I want to do this whole, blogging Moby Dick thing. There is already a guy who is blogging The Bible. But I don't want to seem like a copy cat. Plus, there are probably a lot of people way more qualified to do this. What to y'all think? I'll do it if I get some positive feedback that says people are interested in reading this, otherwise, I'll just keep reading and give updates about what is happening in the book every once in a while.

Also, I went out to take pictures today, so hopefully I'll have some to post soon.
