So that’s it. Well, nearly anyway. Right now I’m back more or less where I started, at a wi-fi coffee shop near my parents’ trailer park in Tempe, Arizona. In just about 24 hours from now I begin the long, long journey back to Seoul. This vacation has been just what I needed; a break.
After Baltimore, I spent two more days in Philly with my friend. We walked around, looked at some stuff, ate some stuff, and saw two more movies. I did not eat a Philly cheese steak sandwich, but I have no regrets about that because I did have something that might be even better. My only regret in fact, is that I never got to see the oldest continuously inhabited street in America. Pity.
The two movies we saw were Little Miss Sunshine, and Factotum. Both were great, but for very different reasons. While Sunshine examined family dynamics and what drives us to be successful, Factotum looked at, scrutinized really, the life of a guy with few connections, barely any family at al, and a seemingly limitless capacity for making bad decisions. The best thing he has going for him in life is Lili Taylor cooking breakfast in a bra and panties, and he even manages to screw that up. Not the feel good movie of the summer.
To which, now is as good a time as any to run some numbers by you: Since last February I have lost about 13 kilograms and finally…[drum roll please] today is my 14th day without a cigarette. But of course, the numbers don’t tell the whole story. They can’t show what a truly, truly sick fuck I still am.
To everyone reading this who I got to see in the past three weeks: Thank you. I love you all, and I’m glad you’re part of my life. I hope we’ll get to see each other again before too much time goes by.
If I wasn't able to see you on this trip, it doesn't mean you are any less important to me. One of the great things about my life is that I have friends all over the world. The problem with that is...my friends are all over the world.
My next update will originate from my apartment in Seoul. Until then, follow the advice of this very wise Baltimore trash and recycling bin...

Many of the things I’ve seen and done in the past few days seemed to carry the general theme of “Nothing comes easy in life. Sometimes your personal choices make life harder than it needs to be. But sometimes too, you can make all the right choices, and life will still suck, because sometimes it just does." I wasn’t looking for a theme, or a moral-of-the-story, really. It just became so glaringly, in-your-face obvious that I couldn’t help but say, “Alright, I get it already!” You kind of had to be there, which, some of you were. :)To which, now is as good a time as any to run some numbers by you: Since last February I have lost about 13 kilograms and finally…[drum roll please] today is my 14th day without a cigarette.
